Challenge
Check4Cancer is a highly respected private diagnostics business, built over more than a decade by leading clinicians and diagnostics pioneers. Its reputation, clinical standards, and service quality underpin strong performance across private referrals, direct-to-consumer bookings, and call-centre operations.
However, that success was built on a tightly coupled, bespoke technology estate and deeply embedded manual processes. Over time, this created significant technical and operational debt. Core systems had become monolithic, complex, and difficult to scale. Growth ambitions in the expanding self-pay market, alongside deeper partnerships with healthcare providers, revealed a hard reality - the existing foundations were no longer fit to support profitable, fast-scale growth. The business had reached a tipping point.

Solution
We began with a quick, lightweight assessment of the current technology stack to validate leadership concerns and avoid unnecessary upfront costs. This concise, outcome-focused review confirmed that ageing technology was limiting growth and posed material long-term risks.
With board confidence secured, we moved into a more detailed assessment of the systems and processes that underpin the business. Instead of starting with technology, we focused on people, workflows, and the clinical standards that differentiate Check4Cancer. Working across functions, we documented how the organisation truly operates today and how it needs to operate tomorrow to scale efficiently without losing its core strengths.
This led to a comprehensive Business Requirements Specification Document. It outlined product goals and KPIs, mapped optimised processes, identified user needs through qualitative research, and developed clear personas. Importantly, it translated complex operational realities into a vendor-ready specification, highlighting the need for a new ERP and a modernised digital platform capable of scalable, secure, and cost-effective growth.
Results
The programme provided Check4Cancer with clarity and control. Leadership gained a clear understanding of which processes to preserve, which to simplify, and which to automate. Technology decisions were based on actual operational needs, not vendor assumptions. The business now possesses a solid blueprint to source and deploy modern platforms confidently, swiftly, and with reduced risk.
Outcome
Equator has become Check4Cancer’s strategic partner for growth. Building on the established foundation, we now support multiple ongoing initiatives, including a platform-agnostic consumer website, sourcing and implementing a contemporary cloud-based ERP,
performance marketing optimisation, and ongoing senior consultancy across technology, marketing, and operations.
With this programme in place, Check4Cancer is positioned to more than double the size of the business by 2025, while maintaining clinical excellence, managing costs, and avoiding the complexity and overgrowth that constrained its early expansion.
