Creating the Big Red Truck exhibition
Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) is one of Europe’s largest social landlords with more than 50,000 tenants and 26,500 factored homeowners across Glasgow and beyond. Their mission is to help people have better homes and live better lives. 999 has worked with GHA over the past 3 years to establish a new brand direction, brand architecture and visual identity that would be applied across all digital and printed materials. Our brief for this project was to design an exhibition that would give staff and public, young and old, and from diverse cultural backgrounds an inclusive experience outlining GHA’s vision of change.
The Big number
The exhibition ran for 3 years
Initially briefed to run for six months, the overwhelming success of the exhibition saw it run for three years, reaching an audience five times larger as a result. It also went on to win not one but three innovation effectiveness awards and helped support the positioning of GHA as one of Europe’s leading social organisations.
Big results in a short timeframe
GHA (Glasgow Housing Association) had invested £1.3b in social housing, yet the public weren’t aware of this bigger picture – our challenge was to communicate this in the most engaging way possible.
The design timeframe was also short – briefing to delivery in time for the first event was just three and a half months. With the technological and logistical challenges, a relative unknown delivering this on time and within budget was no mean feat.
Big Red Truck
An immersive experience – the truck used innovative yet low-cost technologies which included a 'magic table' with interactive projections, and an interactive videowall telling the story of GHA’s vision and achievements. We called it, the ‘big red truck', and it rolled out to events throughout Glasgow and beyond to schools, events and workshops.
Over 40k visitors
Our exhibition attracted over 40k visitors in the first 12 months, with 89% of visitors saying they felt that the experience positively changed how they felt about GHA. As a bonus, we also won three Herald Digital Business Awards for our work.
