AffWin’s opportunity marketplace
14 Sep 2016
The affiliate team here at Equator prides itself on the strength of our relationships and industry contacts. I myself have been a part of the affiliate marketing industry in the UK for about 8 years altogether. That’s long enough to remember the days of the Affiliates4U expos and when Rakuten Affiliate Network was simply just plain old Linkshare.
As much as we rely on picking up the phone or meeting with old acquaintances at various affiliate events, we also need to be as up to date as possible with all new and upcoming affiliate opportunities there might be. Back in the day, this constituted the arduous task of manually scrolling through affiliate directories and trying to find the right partners for your affiliate programme.
Fast forward to March 2015 and Affiliate Window launches the Opportunity Marketplace. This new tool was built solely with the intent of empowering publishers to share available affiliate exposure to advertisers in order to form closer collaborations between the two. Essentially it’s a virtual job board where publishers can post the exposure/coverage available on their site and advertisers are able to get in contact and negotiate price/commission levels etc. It’s a cracking addition to the network and one which has helped us grow our programmes here at Equator as well as demonstrate the reach of the channel to our clients.
Some of highlights so far since using the tool include the following:
- Promoting Sunday Lunch via banners on a dedicated (and delicious) Sunday roast-themed blog
- Organised a family stay for a popular family blogger up in the Scottish Highlands
- Arranged special spa days for top Beauty and Fashion bloggers to attend
- Bagged last-minute newsletter inclusions at reduced rates
Arranged exclusive location-specific commission increases for bloggers in London, Brighton and Manchester
Not your typical mix of affiliate activity and definitely adds a bit of variety to the programmes we manage here at Equator! My advice for anyone looking to use the Opportunity Marketplace is to use it primarily as an outreach tool. Use it to open the dialogue with publishers and take it from there. Personally (and if anyone is reading this from Affiliate Window!), I’d like to see an inverted version of the Opportunity Marketplace rolled out next i.e. one where we (the advertiser) can post certain tasks we need fulfilled. That would definitely take it to the next level!
