Equator’s work with Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution on Storm Live, a live blog which acted as a central hub for updates, information and tweets during Storm Rachel in January 2015, was rewarded during the Corp Comm Digi Awards.

The SSEPD activity won Best Use of Digital in a Crisis Situation, with judges impressed by the preparations made by SSEPD for such circumstances and the way in which the company interacted with customers to keep them updated.

The Storm Live page by Equator was optimised for mobile – as customers may not have power during the storm – and also promoted a Power Track app, to provide up-to-date information on power cuts across Scotland, as well as the welfare and catering services for those customers who had no power.

Throughout the storm, SSEPD averaged a post every 15 minutes, with over 300 uploads in total. SSEPD’s proactive approach to communication, as well as the hard work of its engineers, received praise from the Secretary of State for Scotland in the House of Commons.

We are proud of what the portal achieved, and of the award by Corp Comms Magazine.
