Infiniti Support Our Paras Racing – Our Game Changing BTCC Team

You may remember that two years ago we sponsored an attempt to break a world land speed record at Speed Week on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Well, we now have a new project on the go with our speed-freak friends; we are launching a team that will compete in the 2015 season of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

If it was just any old team, we wouldn’t be interested. It’s not just any old team. This will be the world’s first BTCC team to be manned by injured paratroopers and go head-to-head with the rest of the teams on the grid.

The aim of the team is to raise awareness and funds for Support Our Paras, the official charity of The Parachute Regiment, one of the most iconic Regiments in the British Army. Overseen Derek Palmer, a nutter and a great friend of Equator, the team will include injured Paratroopers who will prepare the cars for race weekends and maintain them throughout the season. The long term goal is to ensure an injured Paratrooper pilots an Infiniti Support Our Paras Racing car.

“I know the overall impact will be tremendous now that the team has finally launched. This is something totally different. It’s employing injured Paratroopers and they can eventually make a career out of this; that has never happened before.” - Colin Smith, CEO of Afghanistan Trust, and to be Director of Operations for Support Our Paras charity

As well as raising awareness for this important charity, the team is sponsored by Infiniti and, along with the launch of a new design centre in London, will be a key component in building the Infiniti brand in the UK.

Steve Oliver, Infiniti Regional Director for North Europe, said: “To have an Infiniti on the starting grid in the BTCC next year will be an exciting event on its own, but to have the car represent the Parachute Regiment’s main charity makes it exceptionally worthwhile. These race cars reinforce our commitment to the UK and provide an ideal platform to link together two truly British establishments, The Parachute Regiment and the BTCC.”

We are cock-a-hoop to be working on this project and are looking forward to the start of the season next year – when the action really begins. The cars will be driven by Derek Palmer Jnr and Richard Hawken. Both of these chaps have previously competed and won several championship races between them – so, of course, we have high hopes for some news-making results.

This team is going to be a big story. We will be broadcasting news as it happens and hopefully you’ll be able to see the story on the BBC too. Keep an eye out on Parasracing.com and on our social spaces for updates and the opportunity to join us at the races.
