Recent user figures for tablets have dramatically increased this year with 30% of the UK population using them at least once a month. This figure is forecast to reach 50% by 2017. This has important implications for brands when building sites and promoting their brands using online display and, worryingly, the top UK retailers are lagging behind in this platform

Recent user figures for tablets have dramatically increased this year with 30% of the UK population using them at least once a month. This figure is forecast to reach 50% by 2017.

This has important implications for brands when building sites and promoting their brands using online display and, worryingly, the top UK retailers are lagging behind in this platform. Research by the IAB revealed that although the majority (74%) of top 50 UK retailers had a mobile optimised site, only 8% had a tablet optimised site.

This presents a missed opportunity as frustrated customers cannot complete their browsing journey with a purchase. Given the fact tablet owners can spend up to 4.4 hours a week checking out their next purchase, transactional apps and tablet-optimised sites are what the big retailers need to focus on and the sooner the better!
