Recently, our affiliate manager, Julia Forrest, attended the Affiliate Marketing Council meeting held at the MEC offices in London. For those involved in the industry, the monthly AMC meetings are the place where your voice can be heard and debates regarding issues such as the Google Panda update, EU Privacy Legislation and multi-attribution code can be discussed.

The evolving mobile sector was the main focus at this month's meeting, which started with an overview of the industry given by Jon Mew, the Director of Mobile at the IAB. "This is the year of mobile" has become a bit of a running joke in the past couple of years, but 2011's figures suggest that this expression is finally being realised.

Affiliates were one of the first when it came to money saving mobile apps and bar code scanners. We already know that affiliates are no strangers to innovation, and this is what continually drives the industry forward. However, now the emphasis is on merchants and affiliate networks to ensure that affiliates are being rewarded for sales that they drive to mobile optimised sites.

The meeting also included talks about research and marketing, legislation and best practise roundups, before everyone headed out for the summer networking drinks. The affiliate marketing industry has always been very sociable and it's great to be able to catch up with networks and affiliates alike.
