Hotels are Taking Advantage of Social Media
How do you get people to check in on Facebook at your hotel? RFID wristband anyone?
Ushuaia Beach Hotel, one of the premier hotels and party hotspots in Ibiza, were looking for an innovative way to increase their brand awareness and improve guest interactivity with the hotels Facebook. As a result, when each guest checks into the hotel, they are provided with an RFID (radio-frequency identification) wristband which is synced with their personal Facebook account. RFID hubs were installed throughout the hotel which allowed users to Check-In using Facebook places, to upload and tag photos, and to update their status.
Now, the guest and hotel's pages are automatically updated, instantly informing all Facebook friends of the guest's activities and whereabouts. This then provides the hotel with a form of free advertising and increases the awareness of the brand to other Facebook users. The guest will have all their favourite memories on their Facebook page while having the freedom to leave their cameras and phones in the safety of their rooms. As many clubbers have found, to their dismay, that alcohol and smart phones don't mix. However, with this RFID service provided by Ushuaia, guests will have all the pictures they want from their night without the worry of losing their smart phones.
Ushuaia Beach Hotel have found an innovative way to encourage guests to interact with their Facebook page, and I am sure it won't be long before other hotels and nightclubs start using the technology.
