Chrome Becomes Britain’s #2
Historically, Mozilla's Firefox browser has been the UK's second favourite browser behind Internet Explorer. However, in July 2011, Google Chrome overtook Firefox for the first time ever.
UK Browser Market Share for July 2011
Firefox 1.0 arrived in 2004 and proved itself to be a huge success. Although Firefox lost out to Chrome in UK market share during July 2011, Firefox should continue to be successful; it's easy to personalise and attracts many third-party developers to create extensions that help increase the functionality of the browser. These extensions certainly make it a popular browser for SEOers.
In September 2008, Google released Chrome - the minimal looking browser which was fast and able to run multiple tabs without crashing. We really like this in SEO. With more extensions becoming available all the time, it's possible for Chrome to become the leading browser for SEOers in the UK.
Still the Daddy...
Internet Explorer is still the most dominant browser in the UK with 46% of the market share. The big advantage Internet Explorer has over other browsers is that it's pre-installed on most Windows PC's.
Everyone has their favourite browser for different reasons. With companies battling it out to provide us with the best browsing experience possible, surely there is only one winner - the internet user!
