Bing increases integration of Facebook results
There have been some very interesting developments regarding the integration of Facebook data within Bing search results. Bing has had exclusive access to Facebook since October 2010, and had been using it within results to a degree, however, this new update is the first major step in utilising Facebook more fully.
In what they are terming the 'Friend Effect' Bing are rolling out the implementation of a raft of new Facebook features into their results. This goes beyond what is available at the moment in that, according to Barry Schwatz of Search Engine Roundtable "search results can now be very tailored to your Facebook profile based on your friends and even the collective Facebook network".
In light of Googles struggle with social search, and the continuing animosity between Facebook and Google, is there a possibility that the Bing/Facebook alliance could change the Search landscape?
